Carting off in style....

My Mother has a little shopping cart (I formerly called them "Granny carts", but I guess that offends some people, and online have seen them called "flea market carts") She uses it to go to nearby stores to pick something up quick.  I had seen cart liners at flea markets and online and knew I could make it cute. I know I should be working on painting the sun room but I had the itch to sew. My Mom had some really quality strawberry fabric she got years ago at a garage sale and so I decided to figure out how to make one of these cart liners.

So isn't it adorable? It took me all night last night--like almost 5 hours to make but I think it is so worth it! I think it is darling. I have seen them online for $125.00--and I thought that was a lot. But after all the work that went into it, and using like 4 yards of fabric I understand why they are that much.  Being a stay at home Mom, I have more time than money, so making them works for me! I got this gingham seersucker fabric at Walmart  because I thought it would up the "cute factor" if it wasn't all one fabric. That fabric compliments the strawberry fabric really well. It has kind of an old fashioned country look I think. I know my Mom will be showing this off to anyone interested so I have to keep up my reputation and have it be really cute. :) When I make my own I think I want to use at least 3 coordinating fabrics...for that extra cute look. :)

I made a large pocket on the inside so that Mom could put her keys, sunglasses, cell phone, wallet..whatever she needs. It holds quite a bit.

My cart is looking pretty sad right now...

With the one lonely yard of fabric...

I am going to save up some money for fabric and my cart will have the cute factor going on too! I am thinking I could line the inside with a sheet--to make it a bit more affordable.

So Mom brought me over this sad looking cart...

When she comes over to walk tomorrow she will be able to pick up this...

For as long as I can remember my Mom's kitchen has been decorated in strawberries..so this would look so darling sitting in her kitchen. But also, if you are careful you can fold it up with the liner on.

Mom will soon be going to the store to pick up maybe a newspaper and some fresh fruits and vegetables...

...and she'll be carting off in style!

Thanks for visiting!

Your Mom is going to love it! Great job.. I have made one for myself but I am afraid I didn't take the time necessary to do it correctly so it is not perfect.. Take care!

It's really lovely - I need to make one of these for my cart. We call them "bundle-buggies"! :) I used to use it to do my grocery shopping when I could walk to the store...love it!

Oh Sandy, I absolutely love it. Dad thinks it is really cute, too. It is much more beautiful than I even imagined it would be, although i always know when you make something, it will be perfect. Thank you! I'm looking forward to picking it up tomorrow when we walk together.

I just found your blog. I followed you over from Cozy Little House. Your cart liner is darling! I have a flea market cart that is lined, and it also has a "lid" made out of the same fabric to keep the contents a little more safe and secure. It is sewn onto the liner across the back, and then just flips down over the front. The ruffle is on the lid, instead of on the cart liner. I think your mother's friends are going to be placing liner orders, so get ready!

I totally remember your mom's kitchen being decked out in strawberries...to this day, anytime I see anything with a strawberry motif on it, I think of Aunt Carolee! SUPER cute cart- she'll love it!

You did a wonderful job creating this beautiful liner for your mother's cart! She'll be shopping in style for sure :) I made one for one of our "flea market" carts, and had it with me last May for a Flea Market we went to ~ got a lot of compliments and looks from people :) It's nice to have a liner for these carts, then you don't have to worry about something slipping or falling thru the openings! Looking forward to seeing what your liner will look like when you create it!

Warmest hugs, Brenda

That is adorable! I love your fabric choices. I think flea market cart sounds so much more dignified than granny cart. Especially since I'm going to get one for myself for the flea markets this summer.

Haha that's funny. I call it a 'bomma karretje', which is the same as 'granny cart'. But nobody thinks it's insulting here.
It looks adorable with the strawberry fabric.

I remember my Grandma using a cart just like that. She didn't drive but loved to walk...so she would always take her little cart with her to the store. She would have loved a pretty cart liner like this!

I just read the sweet note that you left for me over at my place and wanted to come by to say thank you! I sooo enjoyed your visit, my friend!

Hi Sandy!

Oh how cute! I saw these liners a few years back in a little custom upholstery and interior decorating shop where I freelanced at. They were expensive, but very well made.

Looks like you did a nice job on it and your mom is going to be so happy to show it off to all her friends.

Thanks for sharing this at my party this week!

Hi Sandy, thank you for sharing the lovely liner you made for your mom's cart. She is blessed! If you haven't already given it to her, I'll give you a tip for it that I use on mine: cut a piece of plastic cross-stitch 'canvas' to sit in the bottom so that it will give a little extra support to oddly shaped items and protect the fabric at the bottom from rips. My cart has a lot of the same features as you made for your mom and I named her 'Bertha'.
