A "new" old Bible

So this seems like a really appropriate post for a Sunday:)
A few weeks ago when I was at Goodwill I was looking for a old dictionary or something to use in craft projects--what I found was this...
I have always felt that items can carry energy..and I felt like this bible had great energy.
I made the little decoration for it with tulle, angel wings, ribbons, and a flower and rhinestone. I made it so the decoration could easily be slipped off and you can look at the beautiful inside.  The outside is very worn and brittle but the inside, though you can tell it had been well read, is in lovely condition.

There is not much information inside the bible--very little writing and nothing I can find that tells its age. Inside I did find this lovely little poem..I find it to be so sweet.
What a sweet little edition to my bookcase! I so wonder what the story is that this bible could tell (besides the obvious one!)

I thought I would close this post with a picture taken of Janae yesterday when she came to visit. The animals all adore her, as she does them.

Thanks for visiting!

The ruffling continues...

My little ruffler attachment is getting quite a workout! Though the 2012 self proclaimed "year of the ruffle" has only just begun!

This is my project I spent my afternoon and evening yesterday working on. Being fast with a project has never been one of my attributes! It makes me tired thinking about the 3 more of these I need to make. It was a lot of pressing, sewing, ruffling, repeat. Thank goodness I wasn't having to do the ruffles the old fashioned way or I would probably still be working on it. I did french seams and made it all very finished so it can go through the wash many many times.
I am pretty pleased with how it turned out. Even though it took me hours...I have to be happy in the fact that the total cost of this project was 3.99...the cost of a sheet set at Goodwill that looked like it had never been used. Oh, how I love Goodwill!
I thought I would add some pictures of the ruffler attachment for those of you that don't yet have one..the pictures are dark because I took them last night. You can see how you can adjust how full the ruffles are, etc.

This is a piece that is really worth the money if you plan to do many ruffles. I got mine several years ago for $25.  I consider it a necessary part of my ruffling projects. I was never very good at ruffling by hand.

The ruffles are uniform and can be adjusted to be fuller, or less full, depending on what you like.

Can't wait until all the chairs are covered, ruffled and beautiful!

Thanks for visiting my blog!

Obsessed with Angel Wings

I have come to realize that I am really quite obsessed with angel wings.

These are the latest I have acquired. I had seen them on Sissie's and some other blogs and thought they were so pretty..and they are only 8.95!  I wanted them but thought, "oh well..by the time you pay shipping"..but then I noticed they have free shipping! I couldn't resist. Everyone needs a little treat once in awhile. They came really well boxed in a large box..I was pretty impressed. You can get them here. These are the adult size ones but I am thinking there are cute things you could do with the child size ones too. I have seen these on the backs of chairs and they look so good! Someday I would like to treat myself to these. They are more expensive, but bigger and still a reasonable price.  I did add some feathers (since I had them) to make these wings I just got a little fuller. I just stuck them in and they stayed:)

My obsession with angel wings is not a new thing...when I used to breed and show silver persians
my business name was "Angel Image" and my logo was a silver persian in angel wings.

Here is Janae at 8 years old...

Then there's Chantel at 3...

My husband wouldn't let me get pictures done with the boys in angel wings...though don't think I didn't want too!

So I wonder what it is that makes certain things so appealing to some people? It is like white ruffles and burlap--I just can't get enough right now. I think my love of angel wings will be with me for a long time.

Heavenly Little Dress form

I am so pleased with my dress form remake. Here is what it looks like now...

This is how it looked before...
I have had this little dress form for many years and enjoyed it in its dark coloring..it has been a nice to place to show off one of my Grandmothers brooches. But in the last year when I have been transforming everything to white. I kept seeing her and thinking..."What if..."

I placed angel wings on her that I had had on the Christmas tree..I tied torn pieces of fabric and pieces of ribbon and lace.  I added a little glitter her and there.

I think she looks heavenly!

She now sits on the mantle..as she did before, but now with her new look. I wish I had 3 pink roses to put in those bottles next to her. I keep telling myself..spring is coming and along with it the joy of cut flowers in the house!

Thanks for visiting and I hope your weekend was a good one.

The ruffling has began!

Well, 2012( which I have decided is the year of the ruffle in my decorating world) has begun. Slowly but surely. I wish I could spend hours a day working away at my sewing machine--but my dried up still fully decorated Christmas tree continues to call my name. I took a little break from the taking down of the Christmas decorations and made this cute little table runner.

Isn't she pretty? This is also the first piece of burlap that I have ever decorated or sewn with. I LOVE all the burlap I keep seeing on everyone's blog and this year I plan to add a lot of burlap to my decorating. I love it! It adds so much texture.
I used linen to make the ruffle. The fabric was a little thick making it a little harder to get through my ruffler attachment than a thinner fabric would be. I finished the edges because I don't really like linen unfinished. (I still have issues with wanting to be more chic than shabby!)

I made this runner short so I can see the ruffles on the table, rather than hanging down the side. I can hardly wait to make my tablecloth and chair covers. Any advice anyone would have for me on any tricks, what kind of fabric to use, etc. would be greatly appreciated!
To end this post I wanted to mention something else I would love to add more to in 2012...

Birch bark! I can't get enough..and I hardly have any. White ruffles, burlap, and Birch bark..sounds like a year of fun decorating to me!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope 2012 is going well for everyone!

Happy New Year!

I can't believe it is 2012! 2011 was such a good year for us..with the unexpected blessing of a house that we all love so much, the kids experiencing so much growth and maturity, and Janae buying her first home at only 21 years old. We are proud parents.  At the beginning of 2011 we were very unsure of how the year would go. We are so pleased, it turned out to be our best year in a long time.
As we begin 2012 we are again unsure of what the year will bring..but I have faith whatever it brings..we will be able to handle it together. My hope and prayer is that we will be able to find joy in our everyday simple life.
I have no big resolutions or anything like that for the new year. I want to make ruffled seat covers for our dining room chairs, a ruffled tablecloth, some curtains for the window in the sun room..did I say my life is simple? I want 2012 to be the year of the ruffle in my creative world.  I also hope to do a really good job with my gardens and have lots of flowers to display in our house. I want to continue to walk everyday with my Mother because I think it makes me feel physically better and the fresh air makes me feel refreshed. I  hope and pray that my kids have everything they need to lead happy teenage (and almost teenage) lives and that Janae continues to thrive as a young adult and new homeowner. I hope that Jerry continues to enjoy his hobbies, and our home and children. Life is simple...life is good.

Our New Years tradition is to beat on pots and pans at midnight--I know, we are party animals!:) Gage woke up and gave me some New Year grins. In our neighborhood fireworks have been going all night--some even seemed to shake the house! They had nothing on our pots and pan beating though...we can be pretty loud!
One thing I am very thankful about that happened in 2011 is that I started my blog. I knew I would enjoy blogging but I didn't realize how much friendship and goodwill would be coming my way everyday out of my computer. It is so uplifting..whenever I start feeling sorry for myself for whatever reason (usually financial) I can just get on my blog and get so much positive feedback about everything I do have. I thank all of you so much for being there.

I wish everyone a simply wonderful  2012!
