I have been sick the last week, as have my boys. I am getting a little stir crazy being at home all the time doing nothing and projects have been flooding my mind as I look thru all the blogs on my reading list. I have seen several people doing painted vases and when I saw this post done by Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage that was it. I had to try it.
This is what I ended up with. I am quite pleased what a couple bucks and a little bit of time can do!
The first thing I did was run to Goodwill to pick up some vases. I had to laugh at myself--how many of this type of vase have I donated to Goodwill in the past? Oh well, they were only a dollar to two dollars each, so I guess at least I didn't have to store them. If we all saved everything that might be a future project we would all be hoarders:)
So I decided to get white vases--you can also get any other glass vase that strikes your fancy.
I mixed up some chalk paint (which adheres well to glass) and put 2 coats on each vase.
I already finished the small one before I remembered to take this picture! |
Then I got a sanding block and sanded just enough to give it a time worn look.
I'm lovin' it!
I added some buttons and pins to glam them up a bit, and I thought a bit of burlap would add a bit of fall to the look.
I think they look quite pretty! It is a project easy enough that even a sickie like me right now can handle doing. As Shannon said on FB, your cat could do it! Okay--so my cats aren't actually that talented. I had to lock them in Chantel's room so they would stay out of the paint!
Thanks for visiting!

Very pretty, and easy to adapt to different holidays or color schemes later on if you want to. The mantel looks wonderful.
Those are really pretty, Sandy! I love the blue you used! I think I'm going to have to go through my cabinets and see what I've got left in vases now. You are right, I'm sure I donated several of them before we moved.
Nice Sandy,so pleased you are getting well enough to do a project. x

Hi Sandy!
I love the color and the embellishments you used on the vases... they will brighten up any room. I checked out the link :)
I hope you are feeling better. Being sick is bad enough but with the kids sick too it must be hard. I need to get my flu shot ASAP!

They look so pretty Sandy, love the color and the bling.
The vases look great! Just the perfect color!
I have so many posts to catch up on. I love the dream catchers. I know my kids would love to make one, I love the white and the rose. How cute those costumes are. I have painted some vases before using spray paint. Black ones for Halloween of course, but I love your blinged up ones. Have a wonderful weekend.
Sandy, the vases are beautiful. I'm wondering if you put something over the paint to prevent it from washing off. I know you typically put a wax over chalk paint but does that work on glass?
very good submit, i certainly love this website, carry on it best online casino
