On a blog the other day someone asked, "What was your first project?". I really couldn't think of what it was. I have only been in the mode of painting everything white for about 3 years. Then while watching Miss Mustard Seed on Nate it made me inspired to do some words, or a letter, on a project like she was demonstrating. I have done one project before like that..and come to think of it I think it was my first project! When looking at it closer today I could see paint drips and things I would never leave now...but you know you only notice when you are up close so it is okay:) It is amazing how much you learn by doing!
This is how this poor cabinet looked when I bought it....
It was actually a really difficult first project because I had to use wood filler and everything!
I love this B. It is the first letter of our last name and I like to use B's a lot in decorating. I found this B in a "Romantic Country" magazine. I took it to a copy machine and enlarged it as much as I could. Then I cut out the B--taped it on the cabinet and traced around it. Then I painted it. I know there are probably many easier ways to do it, but that worked for me.
The cabinet is so useful because we use it as a TV stand. I have a real "thing" about cords. I hate cords! I hate clutter too. So this little cabinet allows me to hide all that ugly TV stuff- cords, DVD player, the WII, the games..all that stuff! The cable box and the TV are the only things showing.
I am really happy with this cabinet and it's hiding capabilities!
So Gage is doing better but I still decided to keep him home. I figured he should be totally well before going back to a school full of sick kids.
He fell asleep last night with his pirate in his hand.
I decided he could go on our daily walk with my Mother and I today. I think it was good for him to get some fresh air. We got really lucky because the time we spent walking was beautiful..then within no more than 30 seconds after we got in the house it started pouring. That is Oregon for you.
Hope this finds everyone ready for a lovely Easter weekend!
Thanks for visiting!

Well, I certainly adore your little cabinet ... great color choice and I love the "B". But what I really love is the picture of Gage sleeping. There is just something so precious about a child peacefully sleeping ... with a toy in hand! Love it!
What a great make over! Nice job!
You're right, wood filler for your first project? Kudos! I love it!

What a sweet tv cabinet! I love using our "M" around the house from our last name :-) Your little guy is precious. I'm a Capt Jack Sparrow fan too ;-) Have a Happy Easter!
First of all Gage is so handsome and he is just an angel as he sleeps. I really hope he feels better soon. I love your "B" project. You clearly had wonderful vision for that cabinet and it worked. This is such a wonderful post! I would love it if you would share this at our WIW linky party. Hope to see you there.

It was fun to walk with you and Gage yesterday. I think Gage really enjoyed it. Glad you arrived home before it started raining. The photo of him sleeping is adorable.
Great job and great makeover.
Love the cabinet! I hate cords too!!! Don't remember my first project, I have been painting things for so long. Guess that it must have been in my daughter's bedroom, I painted all of the furniture to match.
Loved the picture of your sweet Gage sleeping. I always loved to see my own daughter sleeping, aren't they sweet when they are sleeping? Such angelic little faces! I am missing my little firl right now, but enjoying the woman that she has become!
Love that makeover.Looks great.I just a video on Annie Sloan painting. She is very free when she paints.I am going to do that from now on when I paint.I don't think she worries if there are some drips. You can always sand it down too.

I saw Miss Mustard Seed on Nate too, I felt like I was seeing a friend on TV . Ain't blogging grand ? You said you couldn't find my Etsy shop on my side bar, it is on the left, I moved it up some so it was easier to find . Thanks for your comment and for looking .
Hope Gage is feeling better~he is a darling boy!
Hi Sandy!
I think it is wonderful that you get to walk with you mom everyday... those few miles and good company must do wonders for you health... mental and physical.
I hope Gage keeps on feeling better. He is certainly a precious addition to your family. Aren't all children just so sweet when sleeping?!
Since my husband was given two weeks vacation (in effect immediately, to use anytime THIS year... I know!) we just might take a few days and go visit the family in Wa. He hasn't been back to see them in over 10 + years! It is just SO hard to have my family so far away from me....
Have a wonderful Easter!

Hi Sandy
What a succesful makeover! My first project was with a B too (my sister's first name). I did it exactly like you. And it worked out!
It's so good to do those daily walks. I had to walk a couple of weeks ago when I had a plaster (couldn't drive a car). It's so much healthier.
