I have been just adoring all the ruffled tablecloths I have seen in Blogland made out of bedskirts. The first one I saw was from Courtney at French Country Cottage here. Then inspired by her Janae (my daughter) did one for herself here. Then I saw this one that Brenda at Shabby Cats and Roses did here and I knew I really wanted to make one out of a bedskirt myself! I loved how Brenda made it the shape of her table, which is the same shape as my table. Of course, Overstock.com was out of the white at the time. Then one evening while checking my e-mail Brenda e-mailed me they were back in at Overstock. Janae was over here visiting and I let her know, and as fast as her hands could type she was ordering one one for me, one for her guest bedroom (what a concept to actually use it on a bed!) and an extra one for herself to do a future ruffled project. As Janae was ordering these Chantel was wanting Janae to do something for her..and Janae said, "Not right now this is an emergency" LOL
Here is how I did it. Now, some of these bedskirts have come with a silky top to them, but mine came with that paper like fabric on the top. No big deal I wasn't going to use it anyway. Remember, bedskirts are 3 sided so even if your table is the perfect twin bed size you will be missing one side. Janae ordered me a queen size and we figured I would have some left so maybe another small project. I ended up with about 2 feet of ruffles left. I got out a lovely embossed sheet that I got at Thrift City for $1.15. Thank God for thrift shops. Really, I'm serious, don't know what I would do without them.
I laid the sheet on the table and then I cut around the shape of the table. Leaving about an inch or so all the way around.
Then I cut the inside out of the bedskirt. I left some of the inner fabric on it thinking I would use it to attach to the top part of the tablecloth but the fabric was so cheap I ended up sewing directly to the ruffled part and cutting off any of that paper like fabric. The ruffles are a cotton/polyester fabric.
In no time I had this beautiful fitted ruffled tablecloth. I love it!
Thanks so much to everyone who inspired me. This beautiful tablecloth fits right in with my self proclaimed 2012 year of the ruffle theme..and it was so easy. Now I just need to get busy and make the other 3 ruffled chair covers--they are much more work than this tablecloth was!
Thanks for visiting!

I never knew I loved ruffles until I encountered all the ones you mentioned in blogland too! LOL...and then some more ruffles found on Magnolia Pearl's designs to sigh for. I thank you for telling how to make it, I was being challenged in this. I think I will try it now! Blessings to you! Lady
I love your tblecloth with lots of ruffles. I had my yellow recycled one from my draperies with one ruffle row in the end. Thanks for the tutorial. Hope you had a great Valentine's.

This is great! I love it and your instructions are so clear.
Now, do you want to laugh? As I was reading this and realized that it started as a bed skirt, I immediately called my daughter. We're in the midst of redoing her room and this would be the PERFECT bed skirt. And, Overstocks still had twin in stock!

Perfect!! I LOVE ruffles. I am off to search thrift stores for the materials to copy you!!! Just beautiful.
Oh!, It's just fabulous! The dining room is totally charming, and the pink roses really look so pretty with it all!

So beautiful! I love it!
It's gorgeous Sandy!! Interesting that it came with the paper style lining instead of the silky one ~ must be the manufacturer is trying to cut costs? I think the next thing I would like to use these ruffles on is an ottoman ~ just need to find one, then make a slipcover with the ruffles ~ how gorgeous would that be :) Hmmmmmm... the hunt is on, LOL :)
Have a great weekend!
Warmest hugs, Brenda
LUV LUV LUV this, Sandy!!! I bought that same skirt (in ivory which I hated, but kept it anyway for some future project). NOW I know what I'm going to do with it! This ruffly wonder will go outside on my picnic table for the summer! Thank you for the easy tut!!!!! :)
xoxo laurie
Sandy, you beat me to it. I thought you had already got one. I did see Janae's and as you know ordered a cream one from Overstock.com. I ordered a King size so that I would have lots left over for other projects. The middle was that silky fabric, which I have cut out. I am all ready now to get it together as soon as I can find a sheet for the top in cream. Been looking for a week now. I had to pay $81 for my valance though as Overstock is in the US and postage was high. I wanted one so badly though I treated myself. My hubby couldn't believe that I was cutting it up after paying that much for it and I still need the centre LOL>
I think he's used to my mad ideas by now:) I told him things are so much cheaper in the US and I would have paid at least $100 here for one, that's if we had them. So I actually saved him $20. He says I always quote to him the savings of what I buy and not the total cost. Well we women are so clever, don't you think. LOL
I have been making fabric roses out of the cut out middle bit. They look OK,so that isn't wasted.
LOve the look of your dining room now especially with the matching cushions

Clever girl! How beautiful is that tablecloth!! I know your family and friends will love dining on it. Great job!
Oh Sandy, your tablecloth is absolutely beautiful!! Goes perfectly with the ruffled valence in the sun room.
Oh you are so clever!
That new tablecover is amazing! It would cost a bazillion dollars in the high end boutiques!
Perhaps you can make a couple ruffle pillows with the extra - just put them on the face of a white square or use it all for a nice long bolster one?
Love this post, first time visitor - found you through My Romantic Home/SnT Friday.
Have a wonderful weekend!
It looks so ROMANTIC! I love it!
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing the "how you did it!"

Hi Sandy!
This look so good in your dining room. Fits your personality to a T.
(what does that expression really mean?)
I have sent you a couple of emails but I am not sure they are getting to you. I even hit the reply on the emails you are sending me... I need you address to send out that surprise.

Love all the ruffles! It looks wonderful! Thank you for sharing at Potpourri Friday!
What a clever tablecloth. I adore it!
Hi Sandy,
Your tablecloth turned out lovely!!
We have been busy doing the same things... I was searching for the white too... I have mine on my table, but not sewn yet, those ruffles are dreamy aren't they:-) I have the yucky cheap top too, so thanks for the tip, I will sew to the ruffles too:-)
Hugs,
Bella
Beautiful! I love these myself ~ I'd like one for my table and one for my bed!
I really like the ruffles on the oval table. Everyone usually uses these on a rectangle table, but the oval and the ruffles look so much softer. Very pretty look. Thanks for showing us how to make our own, and thanks for visiting my new kitchen blog this week.
What a gorgeous tablecloth! I never would have dreamed to use a bedskirt. I love your idea of "the year of the ruffle"! How fun. Oh, and I am drooling over your beautiful chandelier!!

I love your ruffle tablecloth! It really is beautiful. Thank you for giving such clear directions...I may just have to make one for myself. Your table looks fabulous and I also really like you chair covers.
Your table cloth is beautiful and I love it with the white chairs. I would love to try and make one of these but have a feeling my four boys would destroy it way too quickly!
Hi Sandy,
I love your ruffled tablecloth, it's so pretty! Thanks for coming by my blog - you asked about my wall color - it is Behr Tide Pools. I got the premium paint with primer in it and it covered in one coat so I highly recommend it. Have a nice weekend!
G'day Sandy.
love, love, love your ruffled tablecloth.
I just made my first ruffled chair cover. I am going to try table cloth next, Thank you for the inspiration.

This tablecloth is so fabulous! I love these ruffled tablecloths but they are usually so expensive. The one on Rachel Ashwell's site is ridiculously priced!
I Pinned your tutorial to one of my boards. Hopefully I'll have time to make of my own :)
Have a fabulous weekend!
Julie
