Buffet Remake and Spring Snow

I actually re-did this buffet almost a year ago but hadn't shared it because I was going to wait until my sun room, where it lives, was complete. Since I have been busy painting and not doing many other projects, I decided to share it today.

Here it is as it looks now...

I have had this buffet for about 20 years. I used to have it in my formal dining room with it's partner, my Chippendale 1940's dining set. In this new house there was no place to put that huge dining set. I put it for sale on Craig's list..together with the buffet. It used to be gorgeous--but the wear and tear of 3 toddlers had taken its toll on it and it needed to be refinished. (Wyatt even carved his name into the top of it). A lady came to buy it but didn't want the buffet because she already had one from her Grandmother. I thought "great!" because I really want to keep it. So the lady came and got the table and I promptly painted the buffet white! The lady called later that evening saying she had had a antique dealer look at it and told her she had stole it from me and to buy the buffet too...but too late I had already painted it white:)  She was just happy she at least got the dining set. She refinished it and sent me pictures--it is gorgeous!

Here is the buffet in transformation---

I love it white. I love all the details.

I now use it as my craft center! When you live in a small house it becomes necessary to be somewhat organized. I love this hutch for my crafting..it stores my sewing machine, fabric, scrap booking papers, glitters and acrylic paints..it is perfect.

I even use the former silverware drawer for crafty items...

It is a useful and beautiful piece!

I have to share our spring snow--it is the latest in the year that we have ever had measurable snow at the Portland airport!

The daffodils look like they are trying to hide!

My new flower--this can't be good!

The roads were clear by the time Wyatt left for school

At this rate we will be building snowman next week during spring break!

Hope everyone is doing well--thanks for visiting!

I like your buffet SO much better white. You did an awesome job. Also it was great how you put your craft stuff in the buffet. So well organized. Love it. You know when things are well organized it gives one a sense of peace.

I did not know you got snow in Portland. Really. Well that makes me feel better because I am truly sick of the stuff and so want Spring to be here. However with saying that we have had some nice days of late..in the low 50's. So maybe spring is finally here. (smile)

Thanks Sandy for always coming to my blog and making such kind comments. I appreciated knowing about Janae and her whooping cough as a baby. Honestly we thought baby Dellie might have that too. I'm just so glad she is well now. Hey have you tried the Killer Artichoke bread yet. Oh girlfriend it is so good!

Big hugs,

Nann

Your buffet looks amazing. It was meant to be white! And- you are so organized. I am jealous. I can never craft because I cannot find my supplies and tools when I need them. My sister is trying to help me, though. She is an expert organizer.

I share your love for white furniture. The dresser looks amazing in it's new color. Aren't dressers just the best thing for storage and display space? I have lots of them in my house and love using them in rooms that they wouldn't normally go in.

Lobe that buffet!! White really brings out the pretty details.
Snow? Oh my goodness!! We have been wearing shorts and sandals for a couple of weeks now! Bless your heart, wish I could send you some of this warm weather!

Your poor flower has a hat on it! I love that buffet. The detail stands out so much more now that it's painted white. Looks great!

Your buffet came out gorgeous! I don't envy your snow...I know we still have a few weeks before I can breathe easily, but so far we don't have any snow in the forecast.

I had to laugh when I saw your pictures of snow and comments of spring break. Huh.....sounds like my town. We had late snow and spring break is next week. I do see you live in Portland so that does make it funny. I'm in Oregon too. :) We had 4 or 5 inches in Eugene.

Your buffet is beautiful! What an awesome idea to store your craft supplies in the drawers. I have been working so hard to get my craft room organized, but nothing I do seems to help.

What a gorgeous piece Sandy!! I once *missed* an antique buffet for $50 that was gorgeous. It even had a long slender mirror attached to the top. Oh well...those things happen.

Would love to repaint a piece like this. What paint did you use and how did you get dark gray /black distressing?
