Burlap Sunflowers and Wee White Pumpkins

I am trying to improve my attitude about Fall. It just is my least favorite season..but you know, if you can't beat 'em join 'em. So I don't see Fall going away anytime soon so I am trying to embrace it.

My first attempt in decorating for Fall is that I made some burlap sunflowers.

I had seen these on pinterest and I really think they are just what I needed to keep with my white and neutral Fall theme.

I think they work perfectly.

So just in case you want to make some yourself here is what I did.

I bought a small bunch of sunflowers from Dollar Tree! There were 5 on the bunch for $1.

I cut them apart, and then took them apart.

I pinned the flowers to a piece of burlap and cut them out.

I put them back together...and ta-da!

I stuffed my table box full of kraft paper filling (also from Dollar tree) and wee little white pumpkins that I finally found after looking at literally every grocery store in our area. Love these wee little pumpkins--but this year for some reason they were so hard to find! Next year I am going to ask my husband to grow me some.

I am pleased with how it turned out.

Maybe I can learn to like Fall decorating.

I picked what I think is my very last fresh cut flower of 2013.

I will so miss fresh flowers in the house!

I hope this finds everyone enjoying all the season has to offer.

Thanks for visiting!

  1. Hi Sandy ;) I dont like fall either! Or winter. I need greenery and flowers! But I love your dislplay. What an awesome idea for sunflowers! Who doesnt love burlap? And I really love how inexpensive it is. I havent found any small white pumpkins yet either. I sure hope I do. I never did find any last year :( Its kind of fun to find ways to decorate for seasons we dont like. It's a challenge :) And you definitely won!

  6. It's just perfect Sandy. I wish we could find white pumpkins too,I'm not a lover of orange and because it's Spring here,it doesn't quite go. The shops are full of everything cheap and nasty and orange and black for Halloween,so I guess I won't be decorating for it. LOL

  9. I too "don't do Fall", because I can't and I'm not into orangy in my home but outside it is glorious with other tones of the same family. I love your shabby fall decor, I'm doing a bit of the same. Love that centerpiece you are so talented!

  10. Sandy, your sunflowers are gorgeous! You're so clever tho think to buy the Dollar Store ones for the pattern and centers! I love neutral Fall items and this vignette is so pretty! I love your wee white pumpkins; I have had the most difficult time finding white ones this year.

  12. I wanted to suggest that you can paint pumpkins. I bought some from the dollar store that I plan to paint and glitter. You can paint real pumpkins as well. My son's birthday is this month and one of our party activities will be painting pumpkins. Your home is so serene and lovely, I dream of mine feeling the same way!

  14. Very pretty! I never thought to look in the dollar store for faux flowers!

I think fall is pretty, but where I live there is no fall. It's hot, so I really don't feel like putting out a hot color of pumpkins. I thought of fading a pumpkin's color by rubbing it with chalk paint or white paint, but I have no idea if it would make it rot.
