Goodwill Frames Transformation

One of  my favorite things to find at Goodwill is a pretty frame. That is just one thing that I can never have enough of!


This is one I got the other day. I just knew it would be beautiful. I decided to just let it sit empty on my mantle. I saved the glass so later I change my mind about what I do with it if I want. Here is what it looked like when I bought it...


In this state it is just not my style. So I painted it white..




I used my new favorite spray paint. A quick coat..dries in 10 minutes..I love it! Janae tried it and she is not in love with it like I am. She is a gloss girl and I like it flat as can be so maybe the gloss isn't as good. So anyway--the frame looks pretty white but it is not showing it's true beauty yet.


So I break out one of my all time favorite products..Rub n Buff, in my favorite color, Spanish Copper.


I have used this product ALOT and I have found that the best applicator is my finger. I run my finger along the frame--hitting the spots that are sticking up and where wear would happen, if it had been naturally worn.


About 30 seconds later I had this lovely detailed frame for my mantle!

I have used Rub n Buff on almost all my projects, especially frames. I love my "photography wall" in my livingroom where I grouped together a bunch of Goodwill frames.







I love the pretty detail these frames have, that is shown off so beautifully with the Rub n Buff.

Today besides painting my frame I worked in the yard between Oregon rain showers.


Oh my goodness--our gardens are so ugly this time of year. Just wait though, in a couple months they will be gorgeous!

Until then I made myself happy buying a few little primroses, pretty and cheap! They remind me of what is to come as I clean up all the dead stuff.



Edited to say: A lot of people have been asking where to find Rub n Buff--it can found in some craft stores and in art supply stores, but usually they only carry the basic gold and silver colors. Since I like the Spanish Copper I usually just get it on Ebay. One tube lasts forever. I am only on my second tube and have been using it for about 3 years.

    Ah...we don't have goodwill here but other thrift store places. Wish we did. Love what you did with the frame. Have never heard of rub and buff before. I've got to get me some of that stuff. But I love that you painted it white. You really are a kindred spirit. I love love love white. Thats why I like you and your blog so much.

    I too am always on the hunt for some pretty frames at Goodwill, but the one's around me just don't ever get many in :( My favorite style to find are the lacey looking ones. I've been fortunate to find a few :) I've never tried the Rub n Buff ~ I should give it a whirl sometime ~ where do you find it? Craft store..Home Improvement store?

    I love how the frame turned out. The rub and buff really makes a huge difference. Thank you for the update on where to get it, I was going to head out to Home Depot but sounds like I won't find it there.
    My gardens are in the dormant stage for the most part. I was able to do a little cleaning up a few weeks ago but it has been too cold or snowy these last few weeks. I hope you show us your garden this summer!

    I just love how you went about the frames. I need some better luck when I go into Goodwill! They have great frames but they just want too much for them in my opinion. Maybe it's where I'm at NC.

    Goodwill has the best things to spraypaint and look brand new. Love all your frames and how you've decorated your wall with them.     What a fantastic idea! I've painted frames white before, but never used the rub n buff on them. I love, love, love your photo gallery wall. I would like to do something like that in my upstairs hallway that's open to the foyer. I love how that looks and showcases your family.

    Oh boy can I relate. I will be 81 on Friday. I am one who wears many hats. I was 16 when I met my husband but had to wait 2 years to get married. He was 8 years older but my best friend.I have lived all my life in Clayton N.Y. and have 2 children.I made porcelain dolls for 17 years did craft shows .We went to auctions and dabbled in antiqueing.I am alone now with my 2 dogs doing tablescapes to satisfy my creative side. I was a hair dresser for ten years and also do some art work.My yard is in an awful state as I just can't do outside work any more.Anymore my pond is covered and brought in my fish. I shall show some of my dolls and artwork sometime.

    Good Morning! I have been looking for some nice frames from the thrift store lately. I really am trying to find a nice BIG one with good detail so I can add ribbon to it and make a framed bow holder out of it......I think my daughter would just love it!
