Well, 2012( which I have decided is the year of the ruffle in my decorating world) has begun. Slowly but surely. I wish I could spend hours a day working away at my sewing machine--but my dried up still fully decorated Christmas tree continues to call my name. I took a little break from the taking down of the Christmas decorations and made this cute little table runner.
Isn't she pretty? This is also the first piece of burlap that I have ever decorated or sewn with. I LOVE all the burlap I keep seeing on everyone's blog and this year I plan to add a lot of burlap to my decorating. I love it! It adds so much texture.
I used linen to make the ruffle. The fabric was a little thick making it a little harder to get through my ruffler attachment than a thinner fabric would be. I finished the edges because I don't really like linen unfinished. (I still have issues with wanting to be more chic than shabby!)
I made this runner short so I can see the ruffles on the table, rather than hanging down the side. I can hardly wait to make my tablecloth and chair covers. Any advice anyone would have for me on any tricks, what kind of fabric to use, etc. would be greatly appreciated!
To end this post I wanted to mention something else I would love to add more to in 2012...
Birch bark! I can't get enough..and I hardly have any. White ruffles, burlap, and Birch bark..sounds like a year of fun decorating to me!
Thanks for stopping by and I hope 2012 is going well for everyone!
Gorgeous! Your use of white is always lovely! I love, love, love the table runner! You did a fantastic job!
ReplyDeleteHow do you keep your house so nice with three kids ?? So cute!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love that little runner. I need to learn how to sew ruffles. Great blog and beautiful home.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I love ruffles and burlap too!
ReplyDeleteYour runner is just perfect! The size is just right. I also LOVE birch bark, but since birches don't grow well in TN, I am always picking it up when we travel West and filling a suitcase full to bring home. Here's to finding even more. Dianne

Your runner looks great! I love the burlap, too and to add the ruffles is perfect. ????There is a ruffle attachment on sewing machines??? I have been doing them by pinning the ruffles and sewing on through them. Is there really an easier way? You can tell I don't do much sewing. I did make chair covers for my dining room chairs, though. It took me 1+ hours for each chair!

Your runner is very pretty and I love it! I really like that it's short though...I've seen a lot of ruffled runners where the ruffles hang off the table. I like this much better!
