I have a stool that a I use all the time due to the fact that I can't reach my upper cabinets. My brother gave it to me when he was in high school so I have always kept it. This is how it looked until yesterday..
A sad looking little stool, useful but sad.
Then I made some chalk paint (which I am thrilled about and will tell about in another post) and turned it blue. Next to white, blue is the color that makes me happy. Then after seeing the technique on Nate, I laid out some lace, put temporary glue on the back and than smoothed it out on the stool.
I used a piece of this very old lace, that has a little stretch to it |
Then I sprayed painted over the lace with white, removed it, and had this beautiful little stepping stool.
I am so happy with this pretty little stool now...and I like this technique so much I am thinking of doing it on my coffee table. Chantel woke up in the middle of the night and saw the stool and yawning said to me, "Well you must be pretty proud of that one" which is her 13 year old way of saying she likes it.
Oh... that is adorable! It is SO feminine. This is going to be a hit with your fellow bloggers.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this at my party!

ReplyDeleteYou are my kindred spirit -- I also am a big fan of blue and white. This technique is perfect to refurbish a stool my grandfather made for me -- will definitely add this to my project list! Thank you.

Love your little girl's take on it! Thanks for stopping by to visit -- I love making new friends. The stool is very cute -- I have one that I stenciled years ago, but it might be time to give it this treatment. I am vertically challenged (!) and I have little helpers like this all over my house.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful design! I might have to try this sometime!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!

Wow, I love it! Amazing the clarity of the lace print coming through. I'm not generally a 'lace' person but I have a blue and white guest room and might use this technique on a nightstand! Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteI love it, too.

You gave this stool such a sweet makeover! Thanks for participation in Potpourri Friday!
ReplyDeleteThis is sooo gorgeous, it's amazing what some paint and creativity can do. I have just purchased a plain wooden step stool (as I too suffer from unable to reach the top cupboards syndrome) and now I can't wait to do it up!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo creative! So very beautiful! Thanks for sharing how you do this.
